A TV show that’s been hailed one of the ‘greatest of all time’ has scored an incredible achievement, with its trailer for season two garnering 158 million views in just three days.
Two years ago, the first season of The Last of Us premiered on HBO in the US and Sky in the UK, with viewers left in awe straight away by the horrifyingly gripping post-apocalyptic world in which the story is set.
The series, which is based on the global hit video game franchise of the same name, follows a smuggler called Joel (Pedro Pascal) who’s tasked with transporting Ellie (Bella Ramsey) across the US, after it’s discovered that she has immunity to the Cordyceps infection that’s ravaged the world.
The trailer for the second season was recently released ahead of the drama’s return in April, and in just a few days, it racked up an astonishing number of views.
On YouTube, HBO’s trailer for The Last Of Us season two currently has 24.4m views – but the total number of views reached 158m across platforms in a record for HBO and Max Originals, Warner Bros Discovery announced.
According to the company, the latest trailer outperformed previous teasers and trailers for the show by at least 160%, Deadline reported.

The trailer for The Last of Us season two opens with Ellie walking carefully through a deserted property.
However, in an unnerving blink-and-you-miss-it moment, a figure can be seen crawling in the background – presumably a human being who was infected by Cordyceps who has now turned into a zombified version of themselves.
Joel and Ellie are seen living in the community that they came across in season one, seemingly at peace while guarded from the infected.
However, their peace is about to be disrupted by the arrival of Abby (Kaitlyn Dever), a newcomer to the story who is hellbent on revenge.
Someone in the trailer cryptically says: ‘By the time the sun comes up tomorrow, there’s a very good chance you’ll be dead.’

Ellie shares a kiss with her new romantic interest Dina (Isabela Merced), while another scene shows Joel inspecting the tattoo on Ellie’s forearm, which she’s used to cover up the scar left from being bitten by an infected.
Wording that shows up in between scenes reads: ‘Every path has a price,’ while new character Nora (Tati Gabrielle) says to Ellie: ‘Don’t you know what he did?’, seemingly in reference to the secret that Joel has been keeping from her since season one.
In the final moments of the trailer, Ellie confronts Joel with tears in her eyes as she says: ‘You swore.’
With the new season premiering on April 13 in the US and the early hours of April 14 in the UK, fans couldn’t get enough of the new trailer when it was released this week.
‘Guys I’m not ready,’ @mooooonss commented on YouTube, while @dishbanerjee wrote: ‘“You swore” and Joel’s heart broke in a thousand pieces. I feel bad for both of them, such an impossible situation. Love this show so much!!’

‘“You swore” I cried AND IT’S JUST THE TRAILER,’ @always.a.cinephile stated.
One viewer called @jm.w pointed out the incredible number of views the trailer has reached on the video sharing platform so far.
‘Can we acknowledge the fact that this trailer has TWENTY FOUR GOD DAMN MILLION VIEWS already???, that’s insane. I love this franchise so much,’ they highlighted.
‘Non gamers are not ready 😭😭,’ @DomTheBomb,’ hinting at the gutting story that’s to come that’s already played out in the video game. You’re right Dom – we’re not.
The Last of Us season 2 is set to premiere on Monday April 14 on Sky and NOW.
