Jesy Nelson has broken down in tears while revealing her babies ‘could die’ from complications that can arise with mono/di twins.

The Power hitmaker, 33, shared the news she and Zion Foster were expecting at the beginning of the year, shocking Little Mix fans after her months-long social media absence.

Ever since, she’s been posting updates of her pregnant midriff, with the most recent picture shared just yesterday. But now Jesy has opened up about the risks her unborn babies face, as she’s learnt they share a placenta.

Speaking through tearful eyes while being comforted by Zion, Jesy said: ‘We wanted to let you in on our journey of what we’ve been going through.’

She continued: ‘So we are having identical twins which is so exciting – we cannot believe it.

‘But, unfortunately, there are complications that come with having identical twins.’

‘The type of twins we are having are called mono/di twins and so normally most twins will have two placentas that they feed off of.

‘But when you have mono/di twins, that means your twins live off one placenta which can lead to lots of complications – one of them being one baby might take all the nutrients which, and it’s really awful to say, but could lead to both babies dying.’

The singer then added: ‘I am currently pre-stage TTTS which is twin-to-twin transfusion and I am being monitored very closely and I have to go and be scanned twice a week.

‘The current situation is that every time I’ve gone it has got a little bit worse but we are just hoping and praying for the best.’

Carrying on through tears, Jesy said they felt ‘blessed” to be pregnant with twins, though admitted she was getting ‘upset’, adding: ‘It’s just really sad that it does come with these complications.

‘We had no clue that this kind of thing happens when you have twins.

‘We just really wanna raise awareness about this, because there are so many people who don’t know about this.’

What does mono/di twins mean and what are the risks?

Monochorionic diamniotic (Mo-Di) twins are twins that share a placenta and therefore a blood supply.

Around 20% of all twin pregnancies are mono/di twins.

The babies share a placenta (mono) but have their own amniotic sacs (diamniotic).

While most mono/di twins are healthy, they have a much higher risk of complications, and so are monitored closely.

What is twin-twin transfusion syndrome (TTTS)

Twin-twin transfusion syndrome occurs in, according to Healthline, around 15 to 20% of mono/di pregnancies.

It happens when blood is not evenly shared between the twins. It can lead to serious illness or death of one or both of the twins.

Jesy left Little Mix in 2020, citing mental health struggles as the reason, having been open about the impact trolling, fame, and the pressure of being in a band had on her.

When she returned to social media in January fans assumed it would be about her debut solo album – but Jesy instead announced her pregnancy.

Sharing a polaroid snap with her 9.7million followers, Jesy unveiled her blossoming bump.

‘She’s eating for 3 now 👶👶’, Jesy wrote in the caption, confirming she’s pregnant with twins.

Jesy and Zion have been involved on and off since 2022 when the pair reportedly met through friends.
