Black Mirror fans are beyond excited as the trailer for the Netflix series confirmed sequels for not one, but two, past episodes.

The seventh season of the hit Charlie Brooker sci-fi dystopian anthology is returning on April 10 with six episodes for loyal, and new, viewers to get their teeth into.

And, for the first time in Black Mirror history, we are getting the reprisal of several characters in what appears to be two sequels of previous episodes hailed by fans.

The first sequel is for season four episode USS Callister, which follows a group of employees at virtual reality video game company Infinity who are cloned and trapped in a private version of the game, Space Fleet, conjured up by Infinity co-founder Robert Daly.

As the semi-fictional space crew revolts against their captor, the episode ended with the newly-dubbed captain, Lieutenant Nanette Cole (Cristin Milioti), and her crew, defeating Robert and being plunged into the hostile world of the video game and its millions of users.

Meanwhile, it appears Will Poulter is also reprising his role as 80s video game company worker Colin Ritman (with his recognisable head of white hair) from the 2018 interactive Black Mirror movie Bandersnatch.

In the trailer, we hear Will’s voice declaring to a hunched-over video game designer: ‘We have to create software that elevates us. Or else what is the f**king point?’ of the tools at our disposal?’

He then asks: ‘What are most games about?’ to which the designer replies: ‘Escapism’ and Colin ominously says: ‘Killing’.

British comedian Asim Chaudhry is also believed to be returning in his Bandersnatch role as Mohan Thakur, founder of Tuckersoft.

‘And I’ll be tuning in exclusively for him,’ @rorytheraptor declared.

‘We’re reaching unprecedented levels of So Back,’ @oohlookwhatyou shared.

‘Need this NOW,’ @aeraamore said.

‘Bandersnatch was so fire… might have to go stream again,’ @simonecleo declared.

The official synopsis is coy, simply reading: ‘Lose your mind. Lose your reality. The Emmy Award winning series returns with six new stories. Nothing is as it seems.’

Peter Capaldi

Paul Giamatti

And this season features a star-studded cast, including Peter Capaldi, Awkwafina, Emma Corrin, Issa Rae and Chris O’Dowd to name just a few of the jaw-dropping talent involved in the upcoming season.

The Doctor Who star, Peter, looks particularly unrecognisable in his episode, donning a long grey wig and serious, maniacal and maybe even murderous demeanour.

Elsewhere, Emma and Issa join forces for a black-and-white episode that looks like it will explore AI with a golden era of Hollywood aesthetic.

As usual, there is a high level of secrecy around the plots of the new episodes and so only time will tell exactly what we have in store for ourselves.

Black Mirror returns to Netflix on April 10, 2025.
